UP Free Laptop Yojana: What the DigiShakti Scheme Gives

Search for a free laptop yojana and there’s a good chance you’ll end up on the DigiShakti website. So let’s clear this up straight away: the DigiShakti scheme doesn’t give laptops. Its proper name is the Swami Vivekananda Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana, and since 25 July 2025 it has given free tablets to eligible students in Uttar Pradesh. Before that, students got either a tablet or a smartphone.

Short answer

UP free laptop yojana: the DigiShakti scheme gives free tablets, not laptops, with no application and no fee
The DigiShakti scheme gives tablets, not laptops

There’s no laptop under the DigiShakti scheme. You won’t find a laptop form or a laptop registration anywhere on digishakti.up.gov.in. What eligible students do get is a tablet, and it’s free. You don’t apply for it either: your college uploads your data, and you complete the Aadhaar e-KYC.

What the UP scheme gives

The UP government launched the scheme in 2021-22 as a pilot, handing tablets and smartphones to college students. On 18 July 2022 it was extended for five years, with a pledge of 2 crore devices. Then on 25 July 2025, a new order, GO 463/77-1-2025, made it tablets only for everyone.

The early batches went out as the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite LTE, the Lava T81n and the Acer One 8 T4-82L. Their specs are on our tablet list.

Who can get the free tablet

Who is eligible for the UP free tablet scheme

You can qualify if you study at a government or private university, college or institute in UP. That includes graduation, post-graduation, diplomas, ITI and skill development, and technical, medical, paramedical and nursing courses. Age doesn’t matter, and neither does family income. If you’re from another state but studying in UP, you qualify. If you’re from UP but studying somewhere else, you don’t.

Devices don’t go out to everyone at once. Final-year students come first, together with students on courses of one year or less. Our Swami Vivekananda Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana guide has the full details.

How to get it

DigiShakti e-KYC steps: open digishakti.up.gov.in, search student details, verify through MeriPehchaan with Aadhaar OTP, status changes to Verified
DigiShakti e-KYC in six steps, from the official user manual

Start by checking with your college’s nodal officer that your data has been uploaded to the DigiShakti portal. Then do the Aadhaar e-KYC on digishakti.up.gov.in through MeriPehchaan; our e-KYC guide lists each step. After that, you can look up your record on the status check page and keep an eye out for an SMS or a notice from your college about distribution.

Watch out for fake laptop registration

Be wary of any site or message that offers free laptop registration, or asks for a fee or your personal details. The official student corner leaves little room for doubt. Students don’t need to register or apply anywhere for the device. No login ID is created for them, and the UP government doesn’t charge a fee. If a link, page or URL asks you to fill in details or pay money to get a tablet or smartphone, the student corner says to report it.

Put simply, never pay anyone for a free government device, and never share your Aadhaar OTP.

Frequently asked questions

Is the UP free laptop yojana open in 2026?

Not on DigiShakti. The official website has no laptop scheme, and the scheme it does run gives tablets. We haven’t come across a laptop application on any official UP page we’ve checked, so be careful with any laptop registration link.

Can I choose a laptop instead of a tablet?

No. Since 25 July 2025, every beneficiary gets a tablet.

Do I have to pay anything?

Nothing at all. The government doesn’t charge a fee.

I got a smartphone in my earlier course. Can I get a tablet now?

Unfortunately not. Once you’ve had a device in one course, you don’t get another in a later one.
